At Heart To Hand Osteopathy, we treat many types of lower back pain, however sciatica is one of the most common. Essentially, sciatica involves irritation or inflammation of the sciatic nerve that runs from the lower spine down each leg, and is usually caused by a problematic spinal joint in the lower back, or a disc bulge or prolapse (‘slipped disc’). Sciatica can cause pain in the back, hip, and leg ranging from irritating to severe, but people can also experience numbness or tingling in the affected leg. Osteopathy is incredibly successful at improving the pain of sciatica, and at Heart To Hand Osteopathy, Dr Dan Carroll uses a range of gentle osteopathic treatment methods to improve the movement in the lower spine, restore healthy function to the spinal discs, reduce the sciatic nerve irritation, and hence improve the pain.
